Enhancing sustainability

There are many environmental benefits associated with digital print. Make-ready waste between images and jobs is removed, as is the entire plate production process. Fewer press chemicals are required and smaller stock holdings are made possible due to the on-demand nature of digital print.

Key features

The Revoria Press GC12500 is a highly productive press, thanks to a number of unique features. A combination of cutting-edge hardware and software technologies ensure consistent high quality and reliability.

Maximum reliability and productivity

Largest sheet size in its class

The B2 XL sheet size of 750 x 662mm is 25% larger than other leading B2 digital presses. This means it is possible to deliver six A4 pages per sheet, including bleed, trim and production data. There is plenty of room for things like a complete 12 page A4 landscape brochure, 2-up tri-fold brochures or 24 A5 postcards on a single sheet. Step up more cards, labels, tickets, swing tags and packaging pieces.

High press uptime

Fujifilm’s heritage, and over 60 years of experience in toner development, have been brought together in the Revoria Press GC12500. Familiar technologies have been enhanced and performance optimised to deliver reliable, high quality production using the largest sheet size available on a toner press.

Dry toner digital presses also feature higher reliability and press uptime compared to others on the market. This is due to the simpler setup and maintenance routines required to operate the press, and advanced features that maximise uptime.

Consistent high quality

In-built advanced technologies deliver reliable high quality, job after job.

Accurate registration

The Registration Control Gate (see right) corrects paper skew and presents a squared-up sheet to the gripper transport system to accurately carry each sheet through the imaging process. After imaging the low stress fusing process ensures dimensional stability of substrates and ensures that even the largest duplex sheets are backed up within a ± 0.5mm tolerance.

Even colour distribution

The uniform distribution of toner across the width of the imaging area is key to maintaining high image quality, especially on the B2 XL size sheet of the Revoria GC12500. New Toner Transfer Optimisation Technology takes advantage of the world’s smallest toner particle sizes contained within Fujifilm’s Super EA eco toner, to create a “magnetic brush”, with greater height and density, to deliver more even colour over larger areas than previously possible on a toner press.

Operation made simple

The Revoria Press GC12500 has been designed to be very easy and familiar to use, making it a powerful option when upgrading from an SRA3 press – with low operator skill levels required.

Easy to use

Anyone familiar with the operation of a smaller toner press will immediately feel at home and ready for production with the Revoria Press GC12500. The general principles of the imaging system remain the same with operators guided through any interventions, calibration or maintenance procedures with simple guides on the control panel and notification lights throughout the machine.

Media management

Managing the paper supply is easy with two drawers that can be freely adjusted to any measure between maximum and minimum sizes. A familiar media library system guides operators through the process of loading and reloading media.

Output accessibility

The unique design of the Revoria Press GC12500 delivers output into the large capacity stacker positioned right next to the feed trays. Everything an operator needs – control panel, paper feed, delivery and sample trays – are within arm’s reach for maximum production efficiency.

Smooth running

Dual oversize Super EA Eco toner cartridges mean they can be easily and cleanly loaded while the press is running, optimising uptime.

Redefining flexibility

Take advantage of changing customer demands and new opportunities with the unrivalled flexibility of the Revoria GC12500.

Media flexibility

In addition to the largest sheet size on a B2 sheet-fed press, the Revoria Press GC12500 is also the most capable, feeding and duplexing a range of substrates with the widest spread of weights and thickness in its class:

  • Feed any sheet size between the minimum of
    636 x 469mm to the maximum of 750 x 662mm.
    There are no limits.
  • Go beyond paper and board to print on some PET and other synthetic media without the need for special coatings or pre-treatment.
  • Whether it’s coated or uncoated, simplex or duplex, the printing specifications are the same: from lightweight papers at 64gsm/0.06mm to heavy card or carton stock at 450gsm/0.6mm.

Workflow capability

As you would expect with a modern digital front end, Revoria Flow manages image quality, job queues and colour. In addition, the following features that appear as options in other workflows, are included as standard:

  • Preflight tools
  • Raster image viewer
  • Imposition
  • Smart job scheduling

Diverse application capability

Leaflets, tickets, postcards, mailers, brochures, books, point of sale, packaging – all become more productive and cost effective with the Revoria Press GC12500. A sheet size of 25% greater than other presses can mean up to 50% more items on a sheet.

Highly productive and easy to use

High productivity of 80 ppm on mixed media jobs

The Revoria Press SC180 & SC170 achieves high productivity printing of 80ppm on both coated and uncoated paper up to 220g in weight. Even on heavier weight media between 300g and 400g, a high speed is maintained at 60ppm.

Printing Speed (coated)

Optional Air Suction Feeder ensures ultra-reliable media handling for all media types
Like an offset feeder, each sheet is picked up and delivered securely by the shuttle head using air suction, improving the paper feeding performance for low quality, textured and coated media. This system is different to most others on the market, giving ultra-reliable and consistent paper feeding and therefore print performance.

Simple Image Quality Adjustment (SIQA) system saves operator time
SIQA is an adjustment mechanism to optimise image-to-media alignment, density uniformity and image transfer parameters. This saves operator time and improves productivity by eliminating the need to manually print and measure every job.

Versatile

Handles various media weights from 52g to 400g

Everything from thin folded flyers to thick business cards can be printed. Additionally, not only can it handle heavier weight longer papers (350g up to 660mm, 300g up to 864mm) but the efficient media handling and versatility mean a wide range of customer needs can be met. In addition, high speed envelope printing can be achieved without an additional fuser.

Wide range of paper sizes, along with long banner paper of 1200 mm

The printer supports a wide range of paper sizes, from 148 x 98 mm (smaller than a postcard) up to 1200 x 330mm banner paper. The Multi Sheet Inserter for banner printing can print single-sided long paper from 660 x 330mm up to 1200 x 330mm, depending on the configuration, and duplex long paper up to 864 x330 mm, opening up new application and business opportunities. Fits existing production processes

With the challenging demands of the flexible packaging market, particularly the short turnaround times and regulatory requirements, Fujifilm has carried out extensive testing of printed output from the Jet Press FP790 with various laminating, slitting and finishing processes, to ensure customers of the press are in the best possible position to maximise the production opportunities from day one.

Fujifilm extensively tested Henkel’s renowned portfolio of laminating adhesives to ensure compatibility with the Jet Press FP790 ink as well as verify adhesion properties and lamination performance in post-press production, to guarantee the highest quality output. Given the excellent results and positive outcomes from these rigorous tests, Henkel’s solvent-free laminating adhesives are Fujifilm’s recommended solution for use with the Jet Press FP790.

Fujifilm also successfully tested Nordmeccanica’s Simplex range of two-layer laminating machines for solvent-less adhesives. The environmental benefits of the Jet Press FP790, combined with Henkel’s solvent-free adhesives and Nordmeccanica’s solvent-less lamination technology, delivers a truly sustainable production solution. In addition, it will enable packaging converters to remain compliant with the increasingly stringent environmental regulations that are now commonplace throughout the industry.

technologies, Fujifilm can clearly demonstrate that its new Jet Press FP790 is fully compatible and integrates effortlessly into existing production environments offering a ‘plug and play’ digital solution that delivers the highest quality finished packaging with minimal testing, training or setup.

XMF Packaging – powered by HYBRID Software

Fujifilm’s Jet Press FP790 will feature a unique, smart Digital Front End (DFE) and unified workflow solution developed specifically by HYBRID Software to optimise the productivity and output of Fujifilm’s press.

This new XMF Packaging DFE is the first of its kind to be developed by a software company for use in the packaging market, and is a result of a close working partnership between Fujifilm’s R&D team and HYBRID’s specialist software developers.

Based on proven technology, the web-based,open architecture production workflow offers fully automated pre-press functionality to ensure the Jet Press FP790 press offers accelerated turnaround times, maximum productivity and reduced operating costs. In addition, its modular configuration allows for greater workflow expansion and upstream customisation to cater for specific user requirements.

A more sustainable print process

Fujifilm employs environmentally friendly water-based primers and inkjet technologies, which meet or exceed all regulatory requirements for flexible packaging printing. The Jet Press FP790 is also able to minimise waste, reduce the number of consumables associated with traditional analogue production, and totally eliminate all elements of the plate-making process.

Wide colour gamut and ultra-high quality

Using 1200 X 1200 dpi resolutions with CMYK inks, the Jet Press FP790 can achieve more than 90% of the Pantone® colour gamut, while also using two white ink channels for delivering high white opacity, all achieved with unprecedented colour stability. The wide colour gamut allows converters to achieve special brand and spot colour matching with no need for additional special inks.

Ultra-high quality

The Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED uses the same head carriage as the Acuity Ultra R2, capable of ejecting greyscale drops down to 3.5pL in size to deliver superb print quality. Combined with an industrial build quality, a linear motor head carriage drive and Fujifilm’s high performance Uvijet UH inks, the very best print quality is guaranteed.

Heavy duty chassis

Like the Acuity Ultra R2, the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED is built on a substantial welded steel construction, together with solid steel bars, which contribute to the machine’s 8.3T weight. This design not only delivers a robust construction, it also ensures that the printer displays very little vibration during operation, further enhancing print quality.

Linear motor head carriage drive

Many hybrid printers use a belt drive to move the print carriage, often resulting in a reduced life span as well as impacting print quality. The Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED uses a linear motor drive for the head carriage delivering travel speeds of 1900mm per second when using the fast carriage travel speed. The carriage movement is quiet and free from vibration, travelling along dual rails with the carriage supported by 6 large race bearings.

Designed with the operator in mind

A range of advanced features have also been incorporated into the design of the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED to improve operation and maximise uptime. These include:

  • Media tension buttons controlling the roll functions of the machine are located on both the input and output sides for ease of use
  • The input media roller is adjustable, moving up and down, for improved tension, and to help keep the roll media flat and wrinkle free
  • The durable aluminium media shafts cater for either single 3.3m rolls, or two rolls each up to 1.6m wide. The printer uses a special airshaft which allows two rolls of the same media having different diameters to be run at the same time

Uvijet UH ink

Fujifilm has developed a new high performance LED curing ink for use in the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED, specifically designed to give the adhesion performance needed in a hybrid solution. However, the ink still delivers the same high coverage and print quality as Fujifilm’s other Uvijet AU and GS inks, with customers also able to benefit from the same low ink usage.

The Uvijet UH ink set consists of six standard colours (CMYKLcLm) and an optional white ink. The printer can be configured with two white ink channels to maximise throughput speeds and print density.

The Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED with white ink allows flood white under-printing for non-white media, over-printing white for backlit applications on transparent media and/or printing white as a spot colour. The new ink range has both Greenguard Gold and AgBB certification.

Applications

Ultra-versatile

The combination of intelligent design features and Fujifilm’s new Uvijet UH high performance ink, ensures that the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED is one of the most versatile platforms on the market, able to produce an unrivalled range of applications at both high quality and high speed.

Print on rigid media with ease

The Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED’s belt transport and intelligent vacuum systems are truly unique, meaning it can print on a range of rigid substrates previously only possible on dedicated flatbed systems.

This means low cost Correx products for short term signage applications such as for sale signs and building hoardings, can be printed at high speed with multiple panels (up to 5 across the bed) continually printed with a single operator.

Double up with multi-layer capability

In addition, the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED can print onto Dibond and Acrylics, utilising multilayer printing and white for reverse printing, and two sided applications.

These applications take advantage of the superb transport system and accurate dot placement, and can deliver high margins and additional revenues, previously only possible with a dedicated printer.

Two rolls at once

The Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED can also print 2 x 1.6m rolls, even with different diameters, as the shafts have a differential in the middle meaning the rolls can spin at different speeds.

All rolls are transported perfectly through the printer, producing high quality results on materials such as self-adhesive vinyl, pop up materials for roller banners, floor graphics and billboard paper all delivered at high speed.

Highlights are a clear winner

For both rigid and roll, the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED can also print white on a wide range of clear materials such as clear self-adhesive PVC, optically clear polyester and polypropylene – all high margin applications for retail applications.

It also capable of printing on wall covering materials, either short rolls up to 1.6m with a textured finish, or on 3.2m seamless wallcoverings for business applications such as hotels and retail spaces.

Short runs to maximise productivity

Roll feeders located on the tables mean many short run applications can be printed economically, with very little waste material and fast change-around times, making the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED a truly versatile production system.

A secure investment in proven imprinting technologies

Fujifilm is unique in that it integrates core inkjet technologies that it has developed in-house, rather than being an integrator accessing third-party technologies. This means that Fujifilm’s printhead designers, ink technologists and integration specialists work together to ensure optimum system performance and reliability for the required application, and once built, are able to take ownership of the complete solution.

What sets Fujifilm apart?

What sets Fujifilm apart are the industry leading printheads and ink at the heart of the company’s imprinting solutions. Samba printheads are found in many of the industry’s leading digital printing systems, as they combine the very highest quality, productivity and reliability, with the flexibility to be used with a variety of different inks and fluids. Fujifilm has now built these printheads into a number of scalable printbar configurations which, when combined with Fujifilm’s own UV or aqueous ink technologies, result in best-in-class imprinting solutions.

Fujifilm can therefore provide all components necessary to successfully integrate a digital solution into an existing production line:

  • Printhead & printbar design
  • Inks & substrates
  • Electronics & software
  • Print systems
  • Transport systems

A bespoke solution for your production process

Fujifilm’s approach is critical to ensure that any imprinting system can be configured to meet specific application requirements. This is achieved by a dedicated team of multi-discipline engineers working together to understand the print performance demands and production process. This then results in a specification for a system configuration that delivers exactly what is needed, including attributes like print width, print quality, colour channels, pre- and post-treatment, printed product performance and regulation compliance.

Fujifilm’s engineers consider all aspects of imprinting performance:

  • Ink and printhead selection
  • Ink performance optimisation
  • Ink in head on paper testing (developing robust image modes)
  • System design & integration
  • Highly skilled trouble shooting & integration expertise with direct access to the people who designed the relevant component
  • Accessory technology selections (pre-treat, post-treat, curing, drying etc.)
  • Full technical ownership of the solution – as Fujifilm supplies all component parts
  • Engineering capability

Samba – the heart of Fujifilm imprinting systems

The jetting of ink onto paper is a well established process in consumer printers, but scaling up the technology to meet the quality and productivity needs of industrial printing is not easy. Fujifilm’s answer is Samba – a ‘printhead on a chip’. This printhead is fabricated on silicon wafers, in much the same way large scale integrated circuits found in computers are made. Due to its scalable design, Samba enables individual printheads to be placed close to each other to form single, tightly integrated printbars.

Samba is a quantum leap forward and is redefining how inkjet technology is designed, manufactured and applied. It is the first piezo drop-on-demand inkjet platform that truly delivers wide-width, high resolution, single pass inkjet printing without the typical trade offs in quality, redundancy or print width.

High uptime and reliability for excellent total cost of ownership
The silicon MEMS design of a Samba printhead is rated for trillions of actuations to ensure reliable and profitable operation. This is coupled with a patented REDIJET® ink recirculation system. This system ensures that ink is constantly recirculating in a closed loop that will not disrupt printing, resulting in uninterrupted production. When coupled with a Fujifilm ink in an imprinting system designed to leverage this capability, it results in fast startup times, simplified printhead cleaning procedures, and consistent print quality.

Samba printhead life is measured in years, not hours, and in Fujifilm printbar systems, is not considered a consumables part. Ultimately, the design of Samba printbars means there is less production waste, lower ink consumption, and lower operating costs.

Benefits of Samba

  • Ultra-high resolution ink deposition
  • Rated for trillions of actuations for ultra-high reliability
  • Closed loop ink recirculation for uninterrupted production
  • Fast start-up times and minimal printhead cleaning and refurbishment
  • Suitable for multiple fluid types

Scalable architecture design

Fujifilm’s Samba technology platform is based on a scalable architecture design, so the print width can be configured to meet the needs of a particular application. And due to the trapezoidal design of Samba printheads, scaling the printbar width is achieved with no compromise to quality, which results in an efficient system design. In addition, the scalable system architecture means integrated components, electronic systems and software can all be scaled to create a system for the print width and colour channels required.

From single printhead to complex multichannel configuration
Printbar configurations can be scaled from a single printhead, single colour system for coding, language changes or simple promotional versioning, to a printbar system with multiple printheads for the printing of full colour images over wider print areas.

A secure investment in a proven fourth generation system

With over 250 installations worldwide, the Jet Press features Fujifilm’s Samba printheads, which power some of the leading digital systems on the market, and benefits from over 10 years of evolutionary development.

A new standard in digital print quality

The Jet Press 750S High Speed Model takes the print quality produced by a digital printing system to new heights thanks to a combination of fundamental Fujifilm technologies. The end result is stunning, vibrant colours, superb skin tones, extraordinary fine text and line detail, and incredible flat tints, all produced on standard coated or uncoated offset paper.

However, the perception of print quality is not only limited to the technical specifications. There is a tactile, emotional and physical element to a piece of high quality print that sets it apart. The Jet Press is the only digital press that delivers on both the technical and the intangible qualities that buyers of offset print are so used to, setting it apart from any other press.

In many cases, Jet Press owners end up printing more on the press as their customers love the quality so much, they specify their work to be printed only on the Jet Press.

Groundbreaking productivity up to 5,400 sheets / hr

With a productivity of 3,600 sheets per hour in High Quality mode and 5,400 sheets per hour in High Performance mode, the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is quite simply the fastest 4 colour, B2 sheetfed inkjet digital press available.

This means the Jet Press allows you to take on more work and get more sheets on the floor than with multiple other digital presses. So if you produce a lot of short or medium run print, the Jet Press will revolutionise your business, improve the service you offer your customers and enhance your competitive edge.

And as the Jet Press is upgradeable, you could start with the Jet Press 750S Standard Model, and upgrade to the High Speed Model as your business evolves, giving you the ultimate flexibility.

Overall productivity is governed by more than just the top-line press speed. Job productivity can be defined as the combined effect of the following:

1. Pre-press preparation

The Jet Press 750S High Speed Model eliminates all the preparation and set-up time of an offset press. There are no plates to produce, no platesetters or processors to maintain, no make readies, no run up to colour, no waste sheets and virtually no pressroom consumables. It operates in the most efficient way possible – just send the PDF to the press and print.

2. Press up-time

The second element critical in determining overall press productivity is the up-time or time the press is available to print. The up-time of the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is unprecedented for a digital press, with reliability figures comparable to an offset press, as it is built on an offset chassis with ultra-reliable paper handling technologies, combined with next generation Samba printheads. Up-time figures above 90% are typically quoted by current Jet Press customers.

3. Press print speed

The Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is able to transition between 3,600 sph High Quality mode at 1,200 x1,200 dpi and 5,400 sph High Performance mode at 1,200 x 600 dpi incredibly quickly. It is the first digital press to offer a practical digital alternative that challenges the capabilities of offset to produce a broad range of print affordably and at comparable speeds.

4. On the floor productivity

The final element that determines productivity is the time required to take the printed sheets and finish them. The Jet Press 750S High Speed Model has a number of features that help optimise this process.

Collated printing: Whatever the application, the Jet Press can print all sheets in collated order, removing the need to handle stacks of different sections.

Optimised sheet dryness: Due to the new drying mechanism, more print jobs emerge from the press dry. With the wide variety of paper types and thicknesses that can be printed using the Jet Press, the new drying system means more types of paper and more print jobs are dry when they emerge from the press.

Full speed, double-sided variable data handling

One of the major advantages of the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is its ability to handle variable data, with the press using a barcode system to guarantee front and back page matching. The barcode is printed in the non-image area of every sheet immediately after the paper leaves the input sheet stacker. Once the first side has been printed, the sheets are turned over and loaded into the sheet stacker once again.

The press reads the barcode on every sheet as it leaves the stacker and downloads the correct page information before it prints the second side (in less than two seconds), guaranteeing front and back page matching.

The benefits of this capability extend beyond the obvious application of variable data personalisation. Jobs can also be printed ‘collated’ in page order to simplify and speed up the finishing process or improve the logistics for job distribution, making the production of versioned print jobs simple and straightforward.

Exceptional environmental performance

There are a number of significant environmental benefits with the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model. These include a reduction in raw materials, hazardous pressroom consumables and paper waste, along with the complete elimination of the plate production process. All these benefits mean that the Jet Press has a much lower carbon footprint than an equivalent offset press.

Reduction in raw materials and paper waste: The advantage of digital print in terms of optimising the number of printed copies produced and minimising the over-runs is a key benefit of the Jet Press. In addition, the number of make readies is also considerably reduced. On some short-run jobs on older traditional sheet-fed presses, the number of make ready sheets can represent a significant percentage of the total run, up to 25% in some cases. This problem is eliminated with the Jet Press as the make ready waste is virtually zero.

Elimination of plate production, water and waste: The Jet Press eliminates all the elements involved in the production of plates. This includes the plates, platesetters, processors and associated chemistry, water and waste. Each one of these elements of a plate production system has a significant carbon footprint in terms of its life cycle, from design, manufacture, transport and use to eventual disposal.

Reduction of hazardous pressroom consumables: The Jet Press also removes the need for a number of the pressroom consumables used on a typical offset press, for example founts, sprays and potentially harmful VOC washes, and of course significantly reduces the requirement for water. The Jet Press requires only two consumables in addition to the water-based ink: a wash for the inkjet printheads and the Rapid Coagulation Primer solution applied to the paper prior to printing.

Lower carbon footprint: Fujifilm carries out a life cycle carbon footprint analysis for all the products it manufactures, a process which takes into account product design, manufacture, transport, use and eventual disposal. As a result, the company estimates that the carbon footprint of the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model compared to an equivalent B2 sheet-fed press (internal estimate) is approximately 25% less.

Sheets can be easily recycled: The environmental performance of the Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is further enhanced by the ability of sheets printed by the press to be easily recycled. With normal water-based inks, ink pigments can sink into the structure of the paper, making them much more difficult to deink. The VIVIDIA HS ink pigments used on the Jet Press do not sink into the structure of the paper, making them much easier to remove during the deinking and recycling process. The use of the Rapid Coagulation Primer in High Quality mode enhances deinkability even further.

Normal water based inks

Jet Press in High Quality mode

Excellent substrate versatility and finishing options

Print on standard coated & uncoated offset paper: The Jet Press 750S High Speed Model is unlike many other digital presses in that it can use an assortment of standard offset paper, removing the need to use specialised coated digital paper on many occasions. This means, for example, that a printer can take advantage of current paper stocks, simplifying inventory and reducing costs. But it also means that jobs printed on the Jet Press are potentially more cost-effective than those printed on other digital presses, as the paper is less expensive.

Finishing solutions: Jet Press printed sheets have been tested and found to be compatible with a wide range of analogue and digital coating, foiling, lamination and cutting solutions. An automatic bridge is also available to connect to online coating solutions.

Support for heavier weight folding carton stock: The Jet Press can be modified to accommodate heavier weight folding carton stock from 0.2 – 0.6mm in thickness. This makes it ideal to print short run packaging applications.

Print on 90 micron light-weight stock:

The Jet Press can print on 90 micron standard offset paper, and so is ideal for applications like light-weight fold-out maps or leaflets.

Print on 340 micron heavy-weight stock:

The Jet Press can print on 340 micron stock, and so is ideal for applications like folders and even promotional packaging boxes. For heavier-duty folding carton applications, the press can be modified to take board up to 600 microns thick.

The press is much easier to use with significantly less downtime, and greater environmental benefits, so we could not be more pleased with the investment.
